THE MANY FACES OF THE GRAYING OF AMERICA

Explore the Graying of America in the 21st century.   The Census Bureau says that from 2010 to 2020 the elderly population over 65 is expected to increase by 35%, while the overall population will increase by only 8% over the same time.   As baby boomers move into retirement, the ratio of elderly persons to those of working age will nearly double from 1990 to 2050 to a projected 60 million, or about 25% of the population.  Most importantly, those 75 years and over will be an increasingly larger proportion of the total elderly population.

Explore the Graying of America in the 21st century at this site.  See how people in America--and all over the world--are celebrating, mourning, reflecting on, adapting to, and researching the rapid changes older Americans face in the new millennium.  The aging are moving forward, finding new ways to keep on working, learning, loving, and choosing those risks and quests that age finally frees us to choose for ourselves.
